school

Sadly, Blaenrhondda Infants School was badly damaged in a fire yesterday. The Victorian building was built in 1882 and served as a school until 1999. It has been at the centre of an ongoing campaign to save it from demolition. The building was included on the Our Valleys List of Buildings, which highlights buildings and places of particular importance to individuals and groups in the Rhondda. According to witnesses, the fire spread quickly and the interior and roof was consumed by the flames within half an hour. Circumstances surrounding the fire remain unclear at present.

16/07/2008 Future projects

Our Valleys Heritage is currently planning art and film projects. We're at an early stage with planning, so if you would like to get involved, as a group or individual, please get in touch. Our Valleys Heritage aim to hold an exhibition showcasing the outcomes of the projects and activities we have been invovled with and artwork will form part of the exhibition, alongside films, memories and photos.

15/07/2008 Book Memories Events

Based on the successful Memory Lane events, Our Valleys Heritage has joined up with the 50+ Older People's Forum to hold memory events at venues across the Rhondda. The events include poetry reading, a quiz and story telling. People are invited to bring their photos and share their memories. The aim of the project is to publish a selection of the memories that can be used in intergenerational work and as part of reminisense activites.

If you would like to book an event for your group, free of charge, please get in touch with Our Valleys Heritage for more information. When possible, we will advertise memory events locally, so keep an eye out for our posters!
